Kwathu is a Malawian word which means ‘Home’. Visitors often refer to homeliness, home cooking and warm personalised service . We pride ourselves on fresh local produce in our cooking, and the tranquillity and beauty our location gives us.
As a result, after a few conversations and some thought, we named the resort ‘Kwathu‘ (home) to reflect our visitors sense of belonging and we aim to keep this sense growing. We aim to meet visitors expectations of an understated yet stunning location to relax and enjoy the beauty of their surroundings. Located in North Malawi on the lake shore of Lake Malawi, Kwathu Resort boasts a front row view to Malawi’s beautiful lake which has the worlds largest range of tropical fish and a culture of friendliness and welcome.
Kwathu means “home” in the local language. The perfect name for such a place. Gloria and her staff here at Kwathu Resort are kindly hosting and cooking delicious local dishes for us. Great to recharge our batteries. Thank you so much!

I have always looked for destinations that immerse me in local culture – experiencing as much of the Malawian lifestyle as possible was my main aim in my travelling to the Warm Heart of Africa.

We were looking for a relaxing holiday and stumbled upon this unspoilt treasure right by the lake. Our host was superb – despite us arriving pretty late, she made us feel very welcome.
